Experienced Ebbsfleet defender Haydn Hollis won’t be paying too much attention to the league table just yet.

Hollis bagged his first goal for the club on Tuesday during a player-of-the-match performance in their 3-1 National League South success over St Albans City.

Early frontrunners Fleet visit mid-table Hemel Hempstead this Saturday before an eagerly-awaited top-of-the-table clash at Havant on Wednesday.

But 30-year-old Hollis said: “To be honest, I don’t even look at the league. I just want to keep winning and winning and winning.

“I don’t even look at the league until Christmas time when you get a rough estimate of how it’s probably going to shape up.”

St Albans lost goalkeeper Michael Johnson to injury - with no natural replacement on the bench and 18-year-old midfielder Huw Dawson donning the gloves for the second half - while Ebbsfleet midfielder Ben Chapman was controversially sent off amid a disappointing second-half performance.

Hollis reflected: “I thought, first half, we were absolutely fantastic. Second half, we made it very difficult for ourselves.

“We didn’t keep the ball enough at times and probably invited them on too much. But credit to the lads for their commitment, desire and attitude.

“We defended really well and everyone dug in deep.”

Ebbsfleet remain the only professional side in England still unbeaten, but it won’t be plain sailing throughout the season - as the second half on Tuesday and Saturday’s 1-1 draw with nine-man Welling proved.

“That’s football,” Hollis noted. "We have no right to beat anybody, you have to work.

“There’s times where you are going to be up against it and there’s going to be times when we do come unstuck.

"But with the way we apply ourselves, I’m very confident that we can bounce back.”
