Olympic Games 2024: Gravesend’s Georgia-Mae Fenton to start quest for Olympic Games medal in Paris in women’s artistic gymnastics team final

Gravesend’s Georgia-Mae Fenton is set to begin her quest for an Olympic medal in the women’s artistic gymnastics team final - before going for individual glory in the all-round final two days later.

Olympic debutant Fenton, alongside Alice Kinsella, Abigail Martin, Becky Downie and Ruby Evans, had to wait more than eight hours before confirmation of a finals place for today with seventh spot at the Bercy Arena on Sunday.

But qualify or not, 23-year-old Fenton was just delighted to be part of the action in Paris.

On becoming an Olympian, she said: “I’d waited a long time to be able to have that title, but when I was out there, I didn’t actually feel nervous.

“Just to be at this point, all the hard work is done and whatever happens, happens - I’ve achieved my dream, no matter what.

"I would have liked to have done a better bar routine for myself and the team so I’d like to sort that out for the team final now we’ve qualified.

“It was, however, a pretty clean competition with just a few bits here and there to sort out.”

Starting on the vault, Fenton was the team’s highest scorer in a Team GB tally of 41.966.

Downie took centre stage on the bars before a no-falls performance from all the Team GB gymnasts on the beam.

With a spot in the final to fight for, the squad performed excellently throughout their floor routines. The standout display, however, came from 16-year-old Martin.

Fenton will compete again on Thursday in the women’s all-around final after qualifying in 20th thanks to a score of 52.632. Kinsella joins her after a 23rd-placed finish with 51.999.
