Ebbsfleet hit six goals for the first time this season on Tuesday night - and boss Dennis Kutrieb admitted they could have had more.
National League South leaders Fleet posted an impressive 6-0 win at play-off hopefuls Worthing, racing into a 4-0 half-time lead, with top scorer Dominic Poleon ending his mini goal drought with a first-half brace.
A Luke O'Neill penalty, Ben Chapman, Franklin Domi and Darren McQueen completed the tally against a Worthing side that themselves won 5-1 at Havant last weekend.
“It was a really good performance,” said Kutrieb. “Everyone who was here could see we could have scored nine, 10 or 11. It was a great performance from the boys, they were on the front foot from the first minute.
“Worthing tried to play with us, they tried to press us high and, if you give us gaps in behind, then we are able to punish and that’s what we did.
“I was looking forward to this game because you could see they played a good game against Havant and Chelmsford, and they wanted to play football.
“They have a good team but we had space in behind and we could always cause some damage.”
It’s only the second time the Fleet have scored six goals since Kutrieb took charge.
He stopped short of agreeing it was their best display during his two-and-a-half year tenure as they matched the scoreline from a 6-0 home win over Welling last season.
“I don’t know, I would need to think about it,” he responded. “It’s a great result, unfortunately we get three points for it and nothing else so you can’t get four points or whatever.
“We tick the box with a great game, I’m really proud of them and we’ll go again on Saturday [against Chippenham] .
“I’m pleased with the clean sheet because they will score their goals as they’re a good team. We limited them to two shots and that’s all in 90 minutes - that’s what pleases me most.
“As I’ve said many times, I’ll never take a win for granted in this league. Yes, we were able to score six goals but if we were ruthless we would score more goals.
“We had enough chances to score that amount and on top of a clean sheet. We had not one weak player on the pitch.”
It was Poleon’s first goals since late October but the 16-goal forward’s mini drought has not been giving Kutrieb sleepless nights.
“He could have scored two more as well,” noted the Fleet boss. “I’m not worried about Dominic Poleon, I don’t need to talk about him as he’s a great striker.
“He will score his goals, he’s already far ahead of maybe his own targets, I don’t know. I will not be worried about him, similar to Rakish Bingham when he was not scoring. I have to be careful about other things, not our strikers as they will score their goals all day long.
“Omari [Sterling-James] again hit the post, very unlucky, but it will come. For the offensive part of our game I would not be worried, even if we don’t score for three games in a row, I wouldn’t be worried as I know we are able to do it and as long as you have the chances to score then you will be fine.
“I can’t say it was a clinical performance as we could have scored even more goals but I’ve got nothing to moan about. How can I moan after a 6-0 win?"
Poleon came off injured late on but Kutrieb added: “It's just a little knock.
"He will ice it and have pain but he will be back fine. He never misses a game as he is a tough one.”
