Nathan Ashmore was quick to praise his team-mates after Ebbsfleet dug deep to rescue a point at Dagenham.

The goalkeeper made a string of top saves, including a penalty, to keep his side in the game.

But Ashmore didn’t want any glory for himself at the end of a pulsating National League game.

He said: "It’s my job. I just save it and that’s it. We’ve got that never-say-die attitude. All of us are willing to dig deep.

"We didn’t show it in the first half but the lads battled hard in the second half and deserved the equaliser.

"It was a bit frantic but I’m glad we got the point. It’s a tough place to come because they’re a good side."

Ashmore dominates his penalty area and his saves have earned Fleet dozens of points since he joined the club in March 2016.

"I’m just glad Gosport sold him to us," said Fleet boss Daryl McMahon.

"I can’t see there being a better goalkeeper at this level.

"What I like about him is he just does his job. That’s what it is to him.

"He’s there to make saves, he does make saves and doesn’t want any praise. He does his job and goes home. He’s an excellent player."

Ashmore added: "We train hard all week, practice things and you’ve got to have a bit about you as well in goal.

"No-one likes getting balls smashed at them from three yards away but I love it.

"I love the challenge, I love the thrill and that’s part of my game."
