JIMMY JACKSON: Scored Gravesend's second with a superb free kick

Gravesend & Northfleet 2 - 0 Forest Green Rovers

ALREADY the modern-day hero of Gravesend supporters, Jimmy Jackson re-wrote another piece of Fleet folklore on Tuesday night.

The 29-year-old marked his 500th appearance for the Fleet with a stunning 30-yard left-foot free-kick to seal the three points against Forest Green.

Jackson’s masterpiece followed Charlie MacDonald’s first-half opener and ensured the Fleet returned to winning ways against a Forest Green side, who quickly ran out of ideas.

It took the home team half an hour to sort themselves out but there was no looking back once Jay Saunders broke the offside trap and set up MacDonald to claim his sixth goal of the season on 35 minutes.

MacDonald and Jackson were both denied after the break but it was no surprise when Jackson stepped forward after Danny Slatter had been fouled and sent his free-kick sailing into the top corner midway through the second period.

Forest Green nearly replied late on through Teixeira but keeper Craig Holloway ensured a clean sheet with a splendid reaction save.

After the match, Jackson said of his landmark: "It’s a great achievement for me and to score a goal is a dream come true."
