Ebbsfleet United midfielder Andy Drury on their National League title chances

Double centurion Andy Drury believes Ebbsfleet can finally reach the Football League this season.

Drury made his 200th appearance for the club in the 3-0 win at Barnet on Saturday, 15 years on from his debut.

The former Ipswich and Luton midfielder, now in his second spell at Stonebridge Road, says this Fleet squad is the best he's known.

Drury won the Conference with Stevenage in 2009-10 and feels everything is in place for another title shot.

He said: "The squad is as strong as I've ever had since I've been here, in both spells.

"It's the highest we've ever been and it would be nice to get into the Football League while I'm here.

"You look around the changing-room, there's players that have played in League 1 and League 2 and the players who haven't have got quality.

"There's definitely a belief in there that we can do something special together."

Drury sees clear progression from 12 months ago, when Ebbsfleet were new to the National League.

He said: "We had a lot of new signings then, getting used to the way we played and we had a lot of draws.

"Now we've got seven points from five games and we've had the toughest start out of anyone in the league.

"We're 10th now and it's a good base to build from. Hopefully we can get a run together and climb up the league even further.

"It says a lot about the players that are here, the way we've dominated pretty much every game, although (some) results haven't gone our way.

"We're still learning. We had a little chat last week about not overplaying in our own area, playing more in the other half and we did that on Saturday."

Drury will be 35 in November but is still one of the first names on manager Daryl McMahon's team sheet.

"I've still got a few years left in these legs," he said. "I'll know when I'm not good enough and when I can't get around the pitch.

"Ebbsfleet's been a fairly big part of my football career. It's six seasons now and it's a club on the up compared to when I first came here.

"It's a good place to play my football, a good environment with the staff and players and we enjoy every day with each other.

"There's competition all over the place and everyone's pushing each other. I do think, when we get a settled team, we'll go on a run like we did at the end of last season."
