Manager Dennis Kutrieb calls for good vibes from the terraces as Ebbsfleet United bid to restore winning feeling after four straight defeats in National League South

Manager Dennis Kutrieb wants a mood change at Stonebridge Road this weekend.

The Fleet will look to arrest a worrying run of four straight National League South defeats when they host relegation-threatened Weymouth on Saturday.

Ebbsfleet’s fans made their thoughts clear to the squad after the 4-0 derby loss at Dartford on New Year’s Day, but Kutrieb wants them to channel their passion in a more positive direction towards the players.

“I don’t know if this is right but everyone has their own opinion and can do whatever they want to do because it’s football,” explained the Fleet boss.

“I think it would help massively if the boys can feel some support and someone is sticking with them.

“If you lose in a derby two games in a row and concede four goals both times, no player - not at Ebbsfleet or anywhere in the world - is going home with confidence so what we need to do is give them some confidence.

“If our fans are deciding to give them bad words that’s fine, but we need to know this is definitely not helping players and nothing else.

“They need confidence so if they go to the fans and they’re not happy about it that’s fine.

“The mood needs to change because at the end of the day it doesn’t help anyone to just be negative. I could do the same in the changing room, I could be negative, blame everyone and dig someone out.

“But I take the blame, that’s fine, as I’m the manager so I have the responsibility of losing two derbies in a row inside six days.

“But the players are not deserving to get abuse off anyone as they will always try hard and none of them went home happy. They will think [about] what they have done and what they can do better.”

Kutrieb described the defeat as “embarrassing” against Dartford, the Fleet boss upset that his team conceded three goals in the last 16 minutes at Princes Park.

He added: “You can’t lose a derby twice with four goals conceded each time, it’s not possible. That’s the reason why I feel embarrassed.

“I don’t feel embarrassed about one single player or a decision, but just as a human being I feel embarrassed as that’s the last thing you want to experience in two massive games, to concede eight goals and score one is nowhere near good enough.

“It’s not the right time to dig someone out and say this isn’t good enough, the pass was embarrassing or the goal we conceded. They had maybe four shots on goal but it doesn’t matter as they had the confidence and every shot is a goal at the moment, we had massive chances but didn’t score.

“We need to stick together, this is the only way you can come out of it when you have a negative time.”
