Nuneaton Borough 0 Gravesend & N 1
DANNY LYE fired home a stunning 25-yard shot to give Gravesend & Northgfleet a surprise victory away to Nuneaton Borough, ending a run of nine games without a win. The goal marked Lye's first for the season and capped a solid performance.
Despite the loss, the home team remain two points ahead of Gravesend in the Conference. They enjoyed the better of the early exchanges with Michael Love threatening to open the scoring with a long range effort.
Gravesend soon settled and were unlucky not to take the lead on the half-hour with Chris Giles heading just wide following good work from Chris MacKenzie.
Love was proving to be a constant problem for the Gravesend defence, the Nuneaton striker coming close again on 35 minutes.
Jimmy Strouts should have opened the scoring for the visitors on the stroke of half-time, but his effort was well saved by the outstanding Chris MacKenzie in the Nuneaton goal.
Half-time saw a change for the Borough, Daniel Williams coming on for Jason Peake as the home team looked for the illusive opener.
It was Lye, however, who proved decisive. His 63rd minute strike leaving MacKenzie with little chance following neat approach work from the Gravesend midfield.
