Daryl McMahon is targeting a record points haul as Ebbsfleet enter the National League run-in.
Saturday’s draw at Leyton Orient extended Fleet’s unbeaten run to five matches and moved them on to 56 points.
Their best tally at this level was 74 in 2006/07, as Gravesend & Northfleet, which means they would need another 19 from their last nine games.
Fleet boss McMahon said: “We’re new to the division and we’re not far off the biggest points tally the club’s ever had in this league, which I’m pretty confident we’ll go through and then we’ll build on that.
“We’re not getting carried away. We’ll try to beat that next year and see where we end up.
“It’s got to be baby steps. I’ve said it before, the club’s taken four years to get out of Conference South and we’re one year into here so don’t get excited – just enjoy it.
“People get carried away with where we are. We’ve come to Leyton Orient and it’s ‘is it
good enough that we’ve got a point?’.
“We were at Whitehawk last year and there were 4,000 people there on Saturday. We need a reality check sometimes. We’re working hard and hopefully we can get into the top 10.”
McMahon expects on-loan Southend striker Norman Wabo to play a significant role between now and the end of the season, having been left on the bench at Orient.
“He’s a talented young boy with good pace,” said McMahon. “He’s a good finisher and hopefully we can get him involved.
“He’s a real prospect and Chris Powell at Southend rates him highly. He’s let us have him and we appreciate that. I’m sure he’ll get plenty of minutes for us.
“I know Kevin Maher really well, their under-23s manager, so I’ve had good reports from him as well.”
