Ebbsfleet manager Josh Wright admitted he couldn’t have been any prouder after his side held on for a point against Yeovil on Tuesday night.
The Fleet had to play with 10 men for what was effectively the last half-hour after referee Robert Massey-Ellis found 14 minutes of stoppage time in the 1-1 draw at Stonebridge Road.
Mustapha Olagunju’s red card might have seen Ebbsfleet crumble in previous months but their new-found determination under Wright’s leadership was clear to see.
“It was a crazy game but when it was 1-1 and 11 against 11, I thought we were going to go on to win the game,” said Wright.
“I’ve just sent a text to a few people and I’ve said that I’ve never been prouder of a result and a performance than what they’ve put in for me.
“Maybe I feel it more different and emotional because I’m on the sidelines but what they’ve just put in for the club, the fans, me and the staff, is absolutely immense and they should be extremely proud.
“14 minutes? I remember the start of last season they were adding on crazy minutes. Look, there were some stoppages and substitutions like there are in every game but if I already wasn’t nervous enough with 10 men, we get 14 minutes put up.
“I was a little bit shocked and surprised but I want to focus on the positives. What the boys have given us and seen it through with 10 men, and by the way we nearly won it as well, that’s what I want us to be about.
“We saw a lot of it on Saturday and we saw a lot of it in abundance on Tuesday. I thought after a steady first half where they had a lot more possession without hurting us too much, we got in at half-time from a worldie by the way. Sometimes you have to give credit, it’s an incredible finish.
“You could feel the belief in the changing room at half-time, they sense that they’ve got more and we’re in these games more than what we were. We’re better than what we were showing.
“They were incredible. I stopped playing to stop doing the miles but I think I did more mileage walking up and down my technical area.”
Wright’s initial reaction was that the red card was harsh.
“Mussy has been absolutely immense since I called him back and he’s come back into the team,” said the Fleet boss.
“He’s been superb and he’s made us look a better defensive side, given us some pace and athleticism. He will be a big miss.
“We got caught a little bit. I thought Tyler (Cordner) was covering him enough to not be a red card but I don’t know.”

Ebbsfleet still require an amazing shift in momentum to have any chance of avoiding relegation.
They’ve only won one league game all season but a defiant Wright won’t be throwing the towel in.
“We still believe in there,” he insisted. “I’ve said it a few times, I need the fans to because every other staff member does, the hierarchy do, we still believe.
“Performances like Saturday and Tuesday show that. Will we win every game? No. But we’ll leave everything out there and when we walk off the pitch we can turn around to each other and say I gave absolutely everything I had.
“That’s what we’re going to do til the end because nothing’s over until it’s over. This is far from over, we’re still fighting, we’re still digging and we’ll continue to do that. Our aim is to improve the situation and hopefully pull this club up to where it should be.”
