Marvin McCoy is determined to tie down a place in the Ebbsfleet team after featuring in three matches over the festive period.
The full-back impressed as a Boxing Day substitute against Bromley and earned his first league start for more than two months against Dagenham four days later.
But McCoy was back on the bench at Bromley on New Year’s Day before being sent on during the second half as Fleet lost 4-2.
He said: “It’s been a little bit inconsistent but that’s football.
“You’ve just got to get your head down and when your number’s called, you’ve got to perform.
“I felt like I did well, the last games I was involved in and I was a bit disappointed not to start on Monday.
“The manager gives us our critique and reasons for changing the formation or starting someone else ahead of you.
“When you play, you’ve got to play out of your skin and keep the shirt. Next time I get the chance I’ll be doing that.”
McCoy has made 58 appearances for Ebbsfleet since joining the club in August 2016 and he started five of their first eight league games back in the National League.
He said: “Some teams like to pass it, a lot of teams like to go direct and I think we’ve found a way to win. We’ve got to keep doing that and make sure we keep it tight at the back.
“We’ll always create chances and we’ve been on a good run.
“To concede four goals against any side is not the best but we’ve got to dust ourselves off and go again versus Chester, which is a big game.”
