Ebbsfleet United striker Aaron McLean looking to emulate the back-to-back promotions he achieved at Peterborough United

New signing Aaron McLean believes Ebbsfleet can emulate the back-to-back promotions he achieved with Peterborough United.

McLean’s goals helped the Posh climb from League 2 to the Championship in the space of two years and now the 32-year-old is eyeing League football at Stonebridge Road.

Having signed an 18-month deal with the National League South leaders, McLean is determined to prove he’s a sound investment.

The striker said: "The club’s got aspirations of getting into the Football League and it’s a development I want to be part of.

"I always want to be part of something exciting and challenge myself. The owners here have set the challenge for us to get promotion through not only this league but the league above – and beyond that.

"They’ve shown faith in me by giving me an 18-month contract and it’s down to me to repay their faith.

"This squad’s definitely equipped for a higher level. When I was at Peterborough, (chairman) Darragh MacAnthony came in and brought in players that were good enough to go on and play at a higher level.

"It’s about getting the squad together and making sure there’s a real unity in the dressing room and they play to their full potential.

"I was fortunate enough to get back-to-back promotions with them and I don’t see any reason why this squad can’t do exactly the same."

A year on from the major squad overhaul which saw former boss Jamie Day sign a host of Football League players, McLean’s arrival has again set tongues wagging about the size of Ebbsfleet’s playing budget.

But the man who’s been promoted with four different clubs insisted: "Money doesn’t buy you success.

"You have to have the ability but you also have to have the right attitude.

"You have to put the right people together and everyone has to buy into your philosophy.

"I think that’s exactly what the lads have done here. They’ve all bought into what Daryl McMahon’s trying to do and you can see by where they are in the league table that it’s working.

"A huge thing in football is having that ambition to want to achieve things.

"I know Macca personally. I know how driven he is and he’ll be focused on making sure he brings in the right people.

"I only know how to play one way and that’s to work as hard as I can and give everything I’ve got for that specific game. I don’t see anything changing here."
