MyFootballClub members have voted to relinquish control of Ebbsfleet United five years after they took over the club.

The online society purchased a 75% stake in the Fleet in 2008 but those shares are now set to pass into the hands of the Fleet Trust and director Phil Sonsara.

MyFC ran a vote over the weekend and almost 70% of the votes cast were in favour of transferring ownership of Ebbsfleet.

Now, two-thirds of their majority stakehold – 50% of the club – will pass to the Fleet Trust and the remaining 25% of shares will go to former chairman Sonsara, one of the club’s major loanees.

MyFC chairman Jeff Hamnett said: “The membership of MyFootballClub yesterday (Monday) passed a vote on their future ownership of Ebbsfleet United FC.

“Members decided to offer two-thirds of Ebbsfleet United FC to the Fleet Trust, the supporters association of the club, as requested at the Fleet Trust AGM on 29 November 2012.

“This will enable the supporters to have their say in the future of the club.”

Representatives of the Fleet Trust met with Sonsara and Fleet chairman Jessica McQueen on Monday night.

They released a statement which read: “Any process to potentially transfer shareholdings will clearly take a period of time to accomplish. In the meantime, the Fleet Trust would welcome financial donations from all Fleet fans to enable the Trust to continue working on their behalf.”

The club is the subject of a takeover proposal by Spanish football representative Carlos Kabir Karani, who outlined his plans for the club at a public meeting last Wednesday.

Protest group Fleet Against MyFC also reacted to the result of the vote and lent further backing to Mr Karani.

They said: “We are delighted that 70% of MyFootballClub members saw fit to realise that their model of ownership does not work.

“We hope that the Fleet Trust can seek a solution and work with the club to end the hopeless ownership of MyFootballClub and that a swift agreement with Carlos Kabir Karani can be arranged.

“Failing this, we believe the Fleet Trust are better placed to resolve the issues the club is facing, and in finding genuine investment, than MyFootball Club.”

Fleet fans were told by Mrs McQueen at last week’s meeting that the club is on the verge of administration and needs £100,000 by the end of April.
