Gravesend & Northfleet 0 - 0 Cambridge United
GRAVESEND were held to a goalless draw by Cambridge United at Stonebridge Road on Saturday.
There were chances at both ends in a match that was not short on quality.
Gravesend started encouragingly and Charlie MacDonald and Danny Slatter both tried their luck from long range, although Darren Behcet was untroubled in the visitors’ goal.
The home side went close again when there was a desperate scramble in the Cambridge goalmouth following Fleet’s first corner of the game, but the ball was eventually cleared.
Although Gravesend were putting in another impressive performance, they had goalkeeper Luke McShane to thank that they were not behind at the break after he made a fantastic double save, first from John Turner and then from Darren Quinton, on the stroke of half-time.
Jay Saunders could have won it for the home side with 15 minutes to go, but his left foot shot from only six yards cleared the crossbar.
Gravesend: McShane, Protheroe, McCarthy, Graham-Smith, Skinner, Slatter, Bowry, Saunders, Jackson, MacDonald, Omoyinmi. Subs: Kerr, Gooding, Moore, Surey, Smith.
