Ebbsfleet boss Dennis Kutrieb insists side can't afford any hangovers after National League South thrashings at the hands of Dorking and Maidstone

Ebbsfleet manager Dennis Kutrieb says there is no time to feel sorry for themselves after a sobering week.

Fleet have been humbled by title rivals Dorking and Maidstone, going down 5-1 and 4-0 in the space of four days.

They’ve dropped to fourth in National League South, behind Oxford City on goal difference, but Kutrieb maintains he isn’t worried about anyone else in the division.

He’s more concerned with getting his own side back on track, with Hampton at home this Saturday followed by the rearranged game at local rivals Dartford on Tuesday night.

“I’m not worried at all about other teams,” said Kutrieb.

“We have to be worried with our team, not with other teams, but I’m still confident, I’m still positive because I know the boys, I know they will show the reaction.

“If you watch the game and you see how we lost on Saturday and how we conceded an early goal against Maidstone, in such an important game, everyone wanted to make it better and show we are a good team.

“When you get another kick it’s sometimes tough to take, because it’s a mentality thing as well, but we don’t have time to feel sorry for ourselves, we need to work hard and do better on Saturday."

Ebbsfleet have fallen seven points behind Dorking, albeit with a game in hand, and there’s the psychological challenge of overcoming two heavy defeats.

But Kutrieb says there’s all to play for and is backing his players to get the last two results out of their system.

He said: “We just need to concentrate on ourselves and make sure we win our games and get the points we want.

“There’s a long way to go. No one has won the league yet. I’ve never seen in my life a team which wins the league after 21 games.

“We saw Dorking were struggling at the beginning of the season, Maidstone had a bad spell, even Dartford had a bad spell and now we’ve had a bad spell.

“I don’t know if two games is really a bad spell but of course it was two important games and we just need to make sure we do better on Saturday.

“From (the) outside, people will look at those defeats, but it’s two games and if we win on Saturday and Tuesday it’s a different story.

“I have to make the right decisions and find the right words for the boys.

“It doesn’t matter if you win or lose, you need to find the right balance because it's three points, nothing else.

“Even if it feels like the end of the world for all of us now, it’s definitely not because we’ve played 21 games.

“We have a big game on Saturday with Hampton and then we play Dartford on Tuesday.

“We will talk about what’s happened and from Thursday we will prepare for the Hampton game and get everyone ready to get three points then.

“We can’t feel the world is against us, we need to get on with it.

“Sometimes you don’t have the rub of the green during the season and you need to work hard for it, then you will get it back.

“We really have to work hard and dig deep because at the end of the day you will get what you deserve and we will get what we deserve if we keep working hard and don’t lose our focus.”
