Ebbsfleet boss Daryl McMahon has not even mentioned their potential title decider against Maidenhead to his squad.
The Fleet probably need to win their last five games to have any chance of being crowned National League South champions – and that includes a trip to leaders Maidenhead in their penultimate game.
But as that showdown looms ever closer, McMahon is refusing to change the mentality that has seen the Fleet go 15 league games unbeaten since Christmas.
“We haven’t spoken about it once (in the dressing room),” said McMahon. “The players might do among themselves but not in front of me.
“You might get bored of me saying it but it’s the truth. We don’t speak about anything other than the next game.
“Who knows what will be the situation later on in the season, this might happen or that might happen is wasted energy.”
McMahon’s team have won 13 games in that unbeaten spell and it’s that game-by-game approach that is paying off.
Maidenhead boss Alan Devonshire has described each of their remaining matches as cup finals but McMahon is refusing to put any labels on it ahead of this weekend’s long trip to Truro.
“We just look to win every game, we isolate one at a time. I’m not looking at five cup finals,” said McMahon.
Fleet travel on Friday ahead of a game against a team just four points and one place outside the relegation zone.
McMahon said: “I think every team goes down a day early when you play them. It’s seven hours away so you can’t travel on the day and expect the players to be prepared properly."
