Danny Mills is pushing hard for a starting role ahead of Ebbsfleet’s game against Eastleigh on Saturday.
Since joining from Whitehawk in the summer, Mills has yet to make his full league debut but he shone as a substitute in Monday’s 1-1 draw at Dover.
Fleet boss Daryl McMahon has made the striker wait so far but always explains his thinking when it comes to team selection.
He said: "Every footballer gets paid to train properly and it’s my decision if I pick him on Saturday or not.
"I’m honest with them about why I’m doing whatever I’m doing. I take the time to have that personal relationship with all the players because it’s important to keep a happy squad and let players know where they stand with you all the time.
"Millsy has been patient. He’s trained well and Danny Kedwell is playing so well because Millsy’s training so well.
"He knows he’s chomping to get a game and it’s pushed Keds on to another level in terms of his performances."
Ebbsfleet, still unbeaten, would climb above Eastleigh and possibly into the play-off places with a win at Stonebridge Road.
McMahon said: "They’ll be well organised with good shape and they’ll try to pass it knowing (manager) Richard Hill. His teams tend to play and they’ll have a bit of aggression as well.
"They’ve brought in a lot of experienced players this season who know the level."
Midfielders Dean Rance and Andy Drury could return after injury but defenders Kenny Clark and Jack Connors are set to miss out again. The club are also assessing Myles Weston (hamstring).
