Myles Weston hit a stoppage-time winner as Ebbsfleet knocked Eastleigh out of the FA Trophy.
Danny Kedwell put the Fleet in front 13 minutes from time but the Spitfires hit back almost immediately through Cavaghn Miley.
But with a replay looming large in the week before Christmas, Weston capped a fine individual performance with a dramatic late goal to send Daryl McMahon's side through to the second round.
Dave Winfield started his first game since August, the club captain coming in for Jack Connors with Chris Bush moving to left-back. Eastleigh, who drew 4-4 with Bromley in their previous game, also made just the one change - Sam Matthews replacing Simon Heslop.
Both sides had their moments in a first half which never really got going.
Bradley Hudson-Odoi looked bright down the Eastleigh right, dragging one shot wide and seeing a second effort well blocked by Winfield.
Fleet should have gone ahead in the 10th minute when Jack Powell's through-ball right through the middle of the visitors defence beat the offside trap. However, Kedwell and Sean Shields go in each other's way as both went for the ball and although Kedwell did go round keeper Graham Stack, he couldn't hit the target from a narrow angle.
At the other end, Paul McCallum headed Gavin Hoyte's deep cross straight at Nathan Ashmore.
Fleet wingers Shields and Weston looked lively whenever they got on the ball and Stack flapped at a Weston cross before Kedwell's header from a Chris Bush long throw dropped onto the roof of the net.
Bush caught Miley late at the other end but referee David Rock waved play on and Chris Zebroski stung Ashmore's palms with a powerful shot.
Ashmore save again from Zebroski before the break, while Mr Rock was unmoved when Kedwell appealed for a penalty when Callum Howe climbed all over him in the Spitfires box.
Shields wriggled away from two defenders and got to the byline but his cross was over-hit and flew out of play.
Fleet broke well at the start of the second half when Shields released Weston down the left although when Drury nodded his deep cross into Kedwell's path, the striker sliced his shot well wide.
The visitors then left Sam Magri unmarked at a corner but the right-back was left beating the turf in frustration after sending his free header over the bar.
Ashmore was then beaten by a Hudson-Odoi strike which deflected narrowly wide.
With a replay looming, it was good to see both sides going for it. Hudson-Odoi lashed a shot over after a great touch and crossfield pass from McCallum, before Powell swirled one into the Plough End after taking up a good position for the hosts.
Play continued to switch from end to end with Zebroski firing into the side netting before Stack held Weston's curling effort from just outside the box.
A glancing header from Zebroski flashed just wide and Ashmore did well to beat out a McCallum shot as the Spitfires came on strong heading into the last 20 minutes.
But Ebbsfleet took the lead when substitute Connors and Shields combined well down the left and the ball ran in the middle for Kedwell, who took a touch before smashing the ball past Stack.
However, the lead lasted just three minutes before Miley glanced a header inside the far post from a left-wing cross.
The closing stages were all-out attack from both sides. Weston burst down the right again and almost set up the winner for Kedwell, before Zebroski was denied by Ashmore with what turned out to be the striker's last touch.
It looked like that would be that until the excellent Weston had one final go and found the bottom right-hand corner.
