Welling first team coach Jamie Day admitted his team paid the price for sloppy defending on Saturday.
Day, who rejoined the Wings two weeks ago, was previously in charge of Ebbsfleet in the 2014/15 season having left Welling where he served for more than five years.
But after seeing Welling concede with 10 men in the final minute against the Fleet, Day said they had no excuses.
"When you play against the good sides, if you give them opportunities and don't defend properly then you concede goals and that's what happened with the first goal - we didn't stop the cross and mark well enough in the box," he said.
"After that I thought we got a stranglehold on the game, we played some nice stuff and Adam Coombes had a couple of good chances.
"At the minute we're not taking them and getting our noses in front and killing teams off.
"In the second half with the 10 men we are going to have a lot of possession. I thought we did okay, the work-rate and attitude was good and we deserved to get the equaliser. But then we didn't get the second goal, Nathan Ashmore pulled off a good save from Mitchell Nelson."
Day was left frustrated by Ebbsfleet's winner. Mitchell Nelson conceded a throw-in cheaply and then the Wings failed to clear their lines - presenting Bradley Bubb with the opportunity to set up Jack Powell's winner.
"When you defend like we did at the end you are going to get punished," said Day.
"That's happened two weeks in a row, we've not defended properly, and from what I've heard it's been the case all season.
"We need to sort it out quickly, whether that's personnel or a lot of hard work on the training ground that we need to put in, that's fine but that's what we'll need to do."
