GRAVESEND & Northfleet moved back to the top of the Ryman League Premier Division with a thrilling 5-1 victory at Enfield on Saturday.
Following Canvey’s shock 2-1 defeat at mid-table Kingstonian, the Fleet are a point clear at the top with a game in hand.
Andy Ford’s side dominated for long periods, with the only surprise being that it took the visitors 34 minutes to break the deadlock - Jimmy Jackson scoring after a mix-up in the home defence.
The Fleet midfielder bagged his second just before the interval but the hosts pulled themselves back into the game five minutes after the kick-off when Matt Lee put the ball past his own keeper Jamie Turner. Gravesend restored their two-goal lead within seconds of the re-start thanks to a goal from Steve McKimm and when Darren Smith made it 4-1 on 58 minutes with a crisp shot, the contest was over.
However, late on there was enough time for substitute Simon Parker to score his first goal for the club and make it 5-1.
Gravesend: Turner, Lee, Martin, Burton, Duku, McKimm, Lye, Smith (Williams 60), Jackson, Stadhart (Parker 60), Wilkins.
