THE Nationwide Conference continues to hold no fears for newcomers Gravesend & Northfleet who rattled up their ninth goal in two games with last night's emphatic win at Underhill.
Fresh from seeing off one former Football League club in Scarborough at Stonebridge Road on Saturday, leet swept aside another in Barnet who relegated from Division 3 two seasons ago.
First-half goals from Tostao Kwashi and skipper Jimmy Jackson paved the way for the club's third straight win, though the Fleet needed to hold their nerve during a sustained Barnet onslaught immediately after half-time.
“Despite all our injury problems, the players never fail to amaze me,” manager Andy Ford admitted. “I was disappointed with the goal we conceded immediately after half-time because we had stressed at the break the need to keep things tight at the start of the second half.
“But I'm very satisfied because we are continuing to progress and we've beaten another full-time side for the second time in four days.”
Kwashi opened the scoring in the 20th minute when he took advantage of poor marking by the Barnet defence to pick his spot from Che Stadhart's cross.
Jackson scored the goal of the game to make it 2-0 in the 32nd minute, lashing the ball home with a searing volley following a flowing Fleet move.
Barnet emerged fired up for the second half and threatened a comeback in the first minute when Ben Strevens glanced home Lee Gledhill's cross at the near post.
The Fleet were pinned back in their own half for long periods as Barnet mounted sustained pressure. But they were deflated in the 71st minute when the visitors increased their lead against the run of play.
When goalkeeper Lee Harrison spilt a shot from Liam Hatch, Stadhart was on hand to knock in the rebound. Two minutes later, Hatch put the game beyond Barnet's reach when he beat Harrison to the ball after Jimmy Strouts chipped it over a square defence.
