Summer signing Myles Weston has already made a big impression on Fleet boss Daryl McMahon.
The 29-year-old joined on a free transfer from Wycombe and showed some promising signs in Tuesday night’s friendly defeat at Tonbridge.
A winger during Gillingham’s 2012-13 League 2 title-winning squad, Weston played centrally in midfield for Fleet after coming on for the final half-hour.
And McMahon also revealed that he could use the former Southend man as a striker.
“When we made the subs you saw what people like Weston bring to the team – directness and pace,” said McMahon.
“He is one of the new lads who has settled in quickly and he has settled into the team quickly. He can play all three positions, he is bright.
“He is not just a runner, he can pass it as well and is a good player.”
Fleet lost 3-2 at Tonbridge, bouncing back from 2-0 down at one stage with goals from Darren McQueen and Danny Kedwell, but McMahon got plenty from the game.
“We got minutes and fitness,” said McMahon. “It was a good game.
“In the first half we had a lot of opportunities, we got into the final third a lot but weren’t great in terms of decision making and lacked a bit of quality really.
“The wet conditions made it a better game. There were sliding tackles and the ball was moving fast under the lights.”
