Ebbsfleet's players met this week to clear the air after Saturday's 4-1 humbling at Wrexham.
They thrashed out a few issues among themselves before manager Daryl McMahon had his say.
Once some strong opinions had been voiced, it was on with training in preparation for the visit of Havant & Waterlooville.
Fleet midfielder Luke Coulson said: "It was a hard one to take. No-one wants to concede four in a half and we've been told some home truths.
"We had a players meeting and whatever got said in that meeting stays between us.
"People said some stuff to other people, we talked about what we felt was wrong and then we had a team meeting with the staff to discuss what the gaffer had to say as well.
"It's very important everyone is honest and what gets said in those moments stays within that changing-room.
"There needs to be a reaction from every player, especially for the travelling fans who would have left disappointed.
"Things need to change and we know that."
Coulson made only his second start of the season at Wrexham, having made 54 appearances during 2017-18.
"Everyone performed well in pre-season and there were a lot of different formations," he said.
"Ebou's come in and done well, Westy's playing really well with Shields out wide and Corey's scored some goals. It's been frustrating for me.
"That was my longest minutes on Saturday but the bigger picture is we lost. I've got to get my head down this week and work hard.
"We all want to prove a point but the biggest thing is that we suffered a heavy defeat.
"Any player could walk away thinking they did all right but the team lost so there could be changes and formation changes.
"That's why this week of training is the most important now that game's gone and everyone's vying for a position."
Coulson insists Fleet still believe they can be successful this season.
"The squad hasn't changed, it's only three players that have come in," he said.
"There's a few problems we're correcting and we're sorting out but the team spirit and togetherness are there.
"Now, more than ever, we need to be stronger."
