Gravesend made a winning return to National 3 London & South East on Saturday.
The London 1 South champions kicked-off their campaign at home to Bury St Edmunds and they took the lead courtesy of a George Montgomery penalty.
However, Christian King scored a try out wide to nudge the Eastern Counties side in front.
Montgomery missed one penalty but slotted the next one to give Gravesend a 6-5 lead, only for Tristan Rawcliffe to kick one at the other end to make it 8-6 to Bury.
The home side went into half-time with a 13-8 lead, though, after Gary Gray forced himself over for a try which Montgomery converted.
Gravesend's pack was continually pushed backwards in the second period and Bury's pressure finally told when the ball was moved wide for lock Tim Young to score.
Back came the Gs, who were held up three times over the line before the referee spotted one Bury infringement too many and awarded Gravesend a penalty try.
Montgomery's conversion wrapped up an excellent opening-day win.
