Ebbsfleet midfielder Sam Deering has admitted his wonder goal from the halfway line was a once-in-a-lifetime strike.
Deering’s audacious 55-yard goal came just EIGHT seconds into their 3-1 win over St Albans last Saturday.
“I’ve never tried it before and I’ll never do it again – not in this life or the next life!” said Deering.
“They kicked-off, Jack Powell won a tackle and it popped out to me. As I took a touch I looked for a forward pass and didn’t see anything. I saw the keeper off his line and instinctively just hit it.
“I thought I might as well have a go, there was nothing to lose. It happened so quickly.
“Without a shadow of doubt, it’s the best goal I’ve ever scored. It’s never going to happen again, this is brilliant.”
Deering has been one of the brains behind the Fleet’s recent run of wins. His clever movement from midfield and ability to pick a pass have been matched by an impressive work-rate.
He said: “First and foremost you have to work hard. If you don’t work hard, you’re not going to achieve anything. We work on the basis of working hard and your ability will come through. It’s been a good start to the season.
“It’s a case of going out there and having fun. (The system) gives me a freedom to go and express myself, and that’s what I feel I’ve been doing. I’ve been enjoying it."
