Armed police called to beach near St George’s Terrace, Herne Bay, and man arrested

Armed police attended a beach in the early hours this morning after reports two people had been assaulted.

Crews were pictured at the scene near St George’s Terrace, Herne Bay and arrested a 47-year-old man following the disturbance.

Officers, including firearms officers, were called to the scene at around 12.45am.

The man, who is from Herne Bay, was arrested on suspicion of assault, possessing a firearm with intent and a racially-aggravated public order offence.

A BB gun and a kitchen knife were also recovered by police.

Two men, who sustained injuries not believed to be serious, were treated at the scene by paramedics.

The man remains in custody while enquiries continue.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone who has mobile phone footage of the incident, to contact Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting 26-0059.
