The family of an "incredibly vulnerable" man who went missing this week have said they are "devastated" after a body matching his description was found.

Robbie Manning, 53, who has the mental capacity of a five-year-old, was last seen on Tuesday afternoon in Herne Bay after leaving his assisted living accommodation in Selsea Avenue.

Police confirmed they found a body after being called to Oxenden Square in the town at 12.49pm today.

His brother, Neil Manning, had been on his way down from Lincolnshire to help with the search.

He wrote on Facebook: "With profound sadness, I have to tell everyone that a body matching Robbie's description was found today.

"I and my remaining family are devastated.

"His presence in our lives brought us so much joy that it is hard to comprehend his light has moved on."

He also thanked people on the Herne Bay Chatter Facebook group for their efforts in trying to find Robbie.

He added: "We have been very touched by so much concern.

"Bless you all."

Neil had revealed the search had widened to Margate because Robbie, an avid West Ham fan, had described it as one of his favourite places.

It is not clear where Robbie Manning's body is believed to have been found.

Kent Police said patrols recovered a body in Oxenden Square this afternoon and that Mr Manning’s next of kin have been made aware.

Formal identification has not yet taken place.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
