A 10-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after he was hit by a car in Herne Bay this afternoon.

The youngster was involved in a collision in Kings Road outside The Park Surgery at 12.35pm and has been taken by ambulance to William Harvey Hospital.

Police spokesman Andy Saunders says the injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A Kent Air Ambulance was called to help emergency crews landing in Herne Bay Memorial Park.

But the helicopter was not needed to airlift the boy to hospital as he travelled by road ambulance instead.

The incident took place in front of shocked witnesses at the park who said the boy was with his mum and younger brother.

One young woman said the boy had head and leg injuries but signalled he was ok before leaving in the ambulance.
