Herne Bay: Police helicopter search for axe-wielding robber after raid at Claybrooks jewellers

Police are hunting an axe-wielding robber in a balaclava following a raid at a jewellers.

Officers are using a helicopter to search for the suspect after the Claybrooks jewellers in William Street, Herne Bay, was targeted this morning.

Window cleaner Daniel Fullagar, 33, called police after seeing the man run away.

The robbery happened at Claybrooks

He said: "I had just finished cleaning the windows at the Cats Protection shop nearby when I saw two members of the public wrestling with a man outside Claybrooks.

"He was wielding an axe and then ran away towards the swimming pool."

Police spokesman Steve Knight says officers were called just before 10am.

He said: "Officers attended and are carrying out a search of the local area with assistance from the national police air service helicopter.

"Nobody was injured during the incident."
