Police have issued a photo of a man they are hunting after a concert-goer was left with a serious facial injury following an assault at a music gig.

Fans of reggae and pop band UB40 were enjoying a tribute show at the King's Hall in Herne Bay when the attack happened.

The victim - in his 40s - suffered a serious facial injury and was taken by ambulance to hospital, but was later discharged.

Detectives have now issued a photo of a man they want to speak to.

DC Peter Leeming said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who recognises the image or who was at the concert and witnessed the incident."

The assault is reported to have happened at the Beacon Hill venue between 10.40pm and 10.50pm on Saturday.

Acting Detective Sergeant Gary Stamp said: "The victim was at a music concert and during an altercation on the dance floor he was assaulted by another man.

"This appears to have been an unprovoked attack and we are keen to hear from any witnesses who haven’t already spoken to police."

The offender is described as white and in his 40s with a shaven head. He was wearing a dark blue polo shirt and red braces.

The eight-piece Rats In The Kitchen UB40 tribute were performing at the venue at the time.

Gerald McCarthy - who booked the band for the event - said the incident happened "without any warning".

He said: "It happened so quickly.

"We don't know who it was - it happened in an instant.

"From memory, this is the first incident in several years at the venue - it is certainly not something associated with the King's Hall."

The venue is owned and managed by Canterbury City Council.

The authority's Larissa Reed said: "This type of incident at the King's Hall, which was at an event run by Great Nights Out, is very rare and we hope the man who was hurt makes a speedy recovery.

"We are working closely with the police on their investigation and will also review our processes at the venue, as you would expect after an incident of this nature."
