The force was strong as science fiction fans descended on Herne Bay on Sunday.

Six thousand people from across the country enjoyed the town’s Sci-Fi by the Sea festival, which is put on by air show organisers BayPromoTeam.

Excited fans met celebrity guests from the world of film and TV, including characters from Harry Potter and Game of Thrones.

Organiser Scott Turner said: “It went really well – the weather was great and we sold out again, which was good.

“People were queuing from 10am and we got everyone in nice and fast.

The show – which was held on the playing fields of Herne Bay Junior School – entered its fifth year, with Game of Thrones star James Cosmo appearing as a special guest.

Cosmo, 69, who played Jeor Mormont in the hit American series, appeared alongside Andrew-Lee Potts from ITV drama Primeval.

They joined a host of comic book and science-fiction heroes and villains at the event, including a Lightning McQueen model from the Disney Pixar Cars movie.

Mr Turner added: “We have been doing the event for half a decade now and we have not got any plans to stop yet.

“As far as I am concerned, we will be doing it again next year and will be trying to think of another corny name for the sixth edition.

“We had compliments on how smoothly it went – it is nice to get that as it has a real family feel about it and it doesn’t feel like you are at a money-grabbing comic-con.”

The Sci-Fi by the Sea show raises cash for BayPromoTeam’s other events, including the free air show.
