A flood alert has been issued as heavy rain comes down on the county.

Pictures show roads turned to rivers as the wet weather continues this evening.

Drivers are having to take it easy along Stone Street, near Stelling Minnis, as water settles on the road.

The Environment Agency is also warning of possible flooding in Herne Bay, Chestfield and Swalecliffe. An alert is also in place for communities on the Great Stour from Charing Heath to the A2070 including Ashford, communities on the East Stour, communities on the Whitewater and Ruckinge Dykes and the Aylesford Stream.

A statement reads: “River levels are rising quickly due to heavy rainfall.

“We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads close to the rivers, particularly along Swalecliffe Brook in Swalecliffe and around Herne Bay.

“Further heavy rainfall this afternoon is expected to cause the river level to peak between 7pm and 9pm this evening.

“River levels are expected to fall overnight into Friday morning.

“We will continue to monitor rainfall and river levels closely and our incident response staff are checking and clearing any blockages and debris from rivers.

“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses.”
