A book shop is set to open next week on the site of a former New Look store.

The Works has announced it will be bringing a branch to Mortimer Street, Herne Bay, on Friday, August 24.

Speculation has surrounded the store since the closure of the national clothing chain at the end of last month.

The store in Mortimer Street will close on Monday (3660581)

CEO of the Works, Kevin Keaney, said: “Our stores have been affectionately called ‘Aladdin’s caves’ by our customers with gifts for everyone.

“We are delighted to be able to bring our unique offer to Herne Bay, generating new jobs for the area and we look forward to being part of the community in the years to come.”

The Works says the opening will create six new jobs.

The chain specialises in books, toys, stationery and arts and crafts.

Herne Bay now has just one national clothing retailer left – the Peacocks in Mortimer Street.
