People living in Herne Bay have threatened to withhold their council tax as the town becomes overrun with undergrowth.
Two-foot weeds have been reported sprouting through cracks in pavements, and what were once grass verges resemble roadside meadows.
The city council, responsible for street cleaners Serco, have blamed recent mild temperatures coupled with heavy rainfall.
But 82-year-old Trixie Hayes, of Fernlea Avenue, said: “I have lived in Herne Bay all my life and I have never, ever known the grass to be like it.
“We’ve got pavements full of weeds, grass a foot high. And it’s all over town!”
She and neighbour Jocelyn Toms have worked out that residents in their road alone pay some £5,000 in council tax every month. They are threatening not to pay it until their verges are shorn and pavements trimmed.
