The man is said to have approached the youngsters, asking them their ages and which schools they attend.

Since then, parents of pupils at nearby Briary Primary and Herne Bay High have received messages from the schools warning them about the case.

It reads: "We would like to alert parents and carers to the fact that we have had a report of a man in the local area approaching children.

"The man has been asking them their age, what school they go to and if they want to go with him instead of going to school."

Officers are conducting initial enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

A spokesman for the force says no children, or parents, have reported being approached.
