KENT Police today issued an appeal for witnesses and information about a serious assault on a 28-year-old man outside a public house.

The victim was knocked unconscious during the attack and suffered a broken jaw that required surgery, plus a cut to his head and bruising.

The incident unfolded as the victim was leaving The Pier pub on Station Road, Herne Bay, on October 6 at about 11pm.

The victim saw a man pick up a flowerpot from the outside of the pub and throw it to the ground. The victim picked up the flowerpot, returned it to the window sill and spoke to the man about his behaviour.

The man disappeared with two friends around the corner, but returned a moment later and challenged and attacked the victim.

The man who threw the flowerpot is described as white, aged 20 to 25, of slim build, with cropped hair. He was wearing a long-sleeved pale shirt.

Anyone who saw the assault or has information about it is asked to contact PC Jonathan Heard at Canterbury Police Station on 01227 868267 (ref 9255).
