Two men were treated for injuries after an "unknown liquid" was thrown at them during a robbery.

Armed officers and a police helicopter were called to Collins Road, Greenhill, on the outskirts of Herne Bay, at 9.30am yesterday.

KentOnline previously revealed how two fire engines and paramedics were also sent to the cul-de-sac just after 10am and firefighters were seen spraying the road.

Residents said a "bottle of liquid was seized" after the incident.

In an updated statement this afternoon, police said: "It was reported that the two men had an unknown liquid thrown at them and a mobile phone and cash had been stolen."

A woman in her 20s from the Herne Bay area was arrested on suspicion of robbery. She has since been bailed until Thursday, June 18.

Some residents told KentOnline the incident involved an "acid attack".

But police today said: "Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident, including identifying the substance involved, remain ongoing."

A car park was taped off in the cul-de-sac after the emergency services were sent to the street near Briary Primary School.

One resident said: "I've lived here since 2002 and never seen anything like it."
