A new project to advertise the attractions of Herne Bay’s coastline has been officially launched.

The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Coastal Park stretches five miles from Hampton to Reculver and will be protected for future generations.

The park was officially launched on Sunday with a special event at the Central Bandstand, and has been created by Canterbury City Council in partnership with a committee of local volunteers.

Committee member Nigel Hancock says the park could help boost tourism to the town, with joint marketing which could be placed in London railway stations under the motto “make the most of the coast”.

He said: “We’re aiming to use new logos and branding to market Herne Bay both regionally and nationally. Local businesses and community groups can promote themselves under the common brand."
