Man in 40s dies after being hit by train near Herne Bay

A man in his 40s has sadly died after being hit by a train.

Emergency services were called to a stretch of the railway line near Herne Bay shortly before 10am yesterday, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Today, British Transport Police has confirmed the victim was a man aged in his 40s.

Trains between Margate and Faversham were halted yesterday morning while paramedics also rushed to the scene of the tragedy, but the man was pronounced dead.

His next of kin have been informed.

A BTP spokesman said: "This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
