Police will be given the power to move troublemakers out of a town centre hit by anti-social behaviour.

A special 48-hour dispersal order will be in place in Herne Bay from 4pm today, also covering the seafront.

The action is being taken following reports of nuisance behaviour from groups gathering in shelters along Central Parade, and in the William Street and Bank Street areas.

Previous complaints have included litter, noise, loud music, criminal damage and intimidation.

Any person over the age of 10 can be directed to leave a specific area and not return for a stated period of time if an officer believes their actions have “contributed or are likely to contribute to the public being harassed, alarmed or distressed”.
