Police were forced to smash a car window after a distraught mum accidentally locked her baby inside on one of the hottest days of the year.

The seven-month-old boy was suffering the effects of the sweltering heat - with temperatures hitting 32 Celsius - when his mum dialled 999.

She had inadvertently locked her keys in the car, which was parked on the driveway of her home in Herne.

When village PCSOs arrived at 5pm, they broke a rear window of the car to get the baby out.

He was then taken inside the house and given first aid until his body temperature cooled down.
