Herne Bay Railway Station evacuated after fire in woman's toilet

A fire in the women's toilets saw Herne Bay Railway Station evacuated this evening.

Firefighters, police and an incident response unit were called to the station after staff spotted smoke pouring from a duct in the lavatories.

The station was evacuated just after 7pm, and police taped off a section of the building.

Fire crews doused the blaze with water.

At least four police cars were spotted outside the station, but the cause of the fire is not yet known.

No injuries have been reported and the smoke did not affect services running through the station.

Network Rail were also called to check the premises

Trains did not stop at the station for the duration of the incident however.

People were let back into the building at about 8.40pm.
