Sadness at store's closure after 90 years

David Cornfoot: "Closure is sad but inevitable."

A furniture store is to close after nearly 90 years trading.

The owners of Cornfoots in Sea Street, Herne Bay, are in negotiation with retirement flats developers McCarthy and Stone over the disposal of the site.

The store will continue trading until planning permission is granted.

“It is sad but inevitable” said David Cornfoot. “With the growth of centralised shopping, our location is unsuitable and the building itself would need a £600,000 injection to bring it up to modern standards. It is just not viable.”
