A primary school has reopened as normal today after a break-in over the weekend disrupted lessons yesterday.

A member of staff at St Philip Howard Catholic School in Herne Bay raised the alarm at 7.40am Monday after discovering signs of forced entry to a classroom.

The three youngest year groups were then turned away at the school gates as police carried out investigations.

Head teacher Lesley Wiles said: "I was appalled to find that the school had been broken into over the weekend.

"Pupils in reception and Years 1 and 2 were asked to stay at home while we worked with the police to find out what was stolen."

There are some 150 pupils aged four to 11 at the school in Avenue Road, of which around 60 were affected by the classroom closures.
