A serious crash has sparked a large emergency response and gridlock on a busy dual-carriageway.

Police and paramedics are at the scene of the accident on the A299 New Thanet Way at Herne Bay.

An air ambulance also landed in the town’s Memorial Park but has since taken off with no casualties onboard.

The crash – understood to have involved multiple vehicles – has sparked long queues between the Herne Bay on-slip and Bullockstone Road flyover.

Some motorists were seen trying to avoid the queues by driving the wrong way up the slip-road, but police have since cordoned off the makeshift exit.
