Lloyds is shutting another 45 branches across its network amid the ongoing shift away from high street banking – including five sites in Kent.

In total, the group is closing 22 Halifax branches, 19 Lloyds branches and four Bank of Scotland branches.

The original list said Lloyds banks in Herne Bay and Dartford were to close but these two branches have since been removed. The updated list says Lloyds in Dover and Rochester will close in April.

Lloyds in Market Square, Dover, will close on April 11 while the branch in Rochester High Street will shut on April 4.

Halifax branches in Orpington, Dartford and Herne Bay are also set to shut. Orpington’s Halifax will shut its doors on March 12, the Dartford branch will close on March 18 and Herne Bay’s Halifax in Mortimer Street will see its last day on April 17.

Bosses at Lloyds have stressed that all affected staff will be offered other roles at another branch or in a different part of the business, with no compulsory redundancies planned.

A Lloyds Banking Group spokesman said: “The way customers choose to bank with us has changed rapidly in recent years, and we now offer a wide range of options for their everyday banking needs.

“This includes our mobile app, online and over the phone.

“Customers can also bank with us through the Post Office, in a Banking Hub, or by speaking to a community banker.”

This announcement comes just a week after NatWest Group said it plans to shut another 19 branches, mostly in the early part of next year.

The latest closures take the total number of high street branches shut across the sector to 623 so far this year.
