Parents in Herne Bay have been put on high alert after a man approached a teenage boy just weeks after a girl was followed home from primary school.

The man – who was in a black car - is said to have pulled up alongside the 13-year-old in Greenhill and asked him if he wanted a lift to Herne Bay High School.

The boy's worried mum posted a warning on her Facebook about the incident, which has been shared by 300 people.

She wrote: “An older man in a black small car who had hair but put a cap on drove slowly behind him in Wrentham Ave this morning and asked him if he was heading to school and does he want a lift!”

“Luckily he is quite streetwise but some kids aren't and who knows what decision they would make at that point.

She added: “He's not phased by it but it made me go into panic mode. There's some sick people around.

“I will be ringing Herne Bay High in case this car has been lurking around there!”

Another post on Facebook suggested a girl had also been followed home by a man in a green car from Briary primary school “a few weeks ago”.

The police have been alerted to the latest incident.

The mum wrote: “They are going to do a drive round at that time in the morning and contact their unit that deal with "those sort of people".

"But they said technically no crime has been carried out until they have tried to grab them!”

Herne Bay High and Briary Primary School have been asked for a comment.
