Teenager behind bars for birthday

A teenager will spend Christmas and his birthday behind bars in a young offenders institute after admitting fighting outside a pub.
Billy Steadman, 18, also knocked a member of staff unconscious during an incident at the same pub on Friday.
Steadman, of Lancaster Gardens, Herne Bay, celebrates his birthday on Wednesday. He was jailed by Canterbury magistrates on Monday after admitting affray and assault.
Steadman had been drinking in the Saxon Shore in Central Parade, Herne Bay, on Saturday, November 29, but was asked to leave because of an ASBO imposed on him in June, banning him from a number of commercial premises in the town.
After leaving, he realised he had left his phone and wallet inside and went back to retrieve them.
By then, the pub was closed and staff refused to let him back in, so he kicked the door and scuffled with a 28-year-old member of staff.
On Friday, Steadman walked past the pub and saw the same member of staff, who was off duty, in the beer garden.
He began to make comments about his phone and wallet being stolen, before picking up a glass and throwing it at him. The attack knocked the man unconscious and left him with cuts on his face.
With the help of CCTV operators, police were quickly able to trace and arrest Steadman.
He was given separate six month sentences for the assault and affray.
He will also serve a concurrent four month sentence for the November offences of breaching his ASBO and using violence to secure entry.
He admitted all the offences.
George Woods, 18, of York Road, Herne Bay, was arrested on Monday in connection with the incident at the Saxon Shore pub on Friday.
He has been charged with assault and affray.
