A quarter of all car crashes involve drivers under the age of 25.

To target young motorists, KFRS delivers the RUSH programme in the county’s secondary schools, aiming to educate young drivers before they get behind the wheel.

Aimed at Year 11 students, it includes a graphic video of teenagers involved in a fatal car crash.

Phil Reeves is one of the service’s education officers.

He joined the fire service in 1984 as a retained firefighter at Dover, going on to join as a full-time firefighter in 1987. In 2004 he joined the education team.

He said:” “We find that it is not only young people as drivers but young people as passengers in cars and the distractions that they cause that can cause road traffic accidents.”
