Heavy rainfall has led to an "artificial lake" forming in a street as flooding hits part of the county.

It comes as Kent is set to face miserable wet and windy weather as Storm Alex hits the county.

King's Road in Herne Bay has been battered by the heavy rain, leading to a lake to form on the street surface.

Volker Jottkandt, 77, said he has jokingly dubbed the road "Lakeland" because of the issues caused whenever there is a downpour.

"When lockdown was eased they put more service drainage in Richmond Road and it does ease the problem a little bit," he said.

"But having just seen this now after last night’s rain, the old Lakeland is back."

The area affected is outside Park Surgery and the pathway outside the practice is covered with water.

"As the cars go past they splash you all over so you have to be careful to get out of the way," he added.

"I’ve been in Herne Bay for 14 years and whenever we have heavy rain there is a big huge puddle there like a lake."

Rain is set to batter the county throughout today and the weekend, with weather warnings in force until tomorrow morning.

Today, the Met Office is warning of potential flooding in western and central areas of Kent as a result of the band of heavy rain heading north from France.

It also warns road, rail, air and ferry transport could be delayed and there is the risk of short power cuts.
